Attendance wherever the diary allows

Cockroaches are business-critical. For a takeaway, restaurant, pub or hotel a single sighting can mean a closed kitchen, a failed inspection and a reputation that takes years to rebuild. In a home they are distressing and stubborn in equal measure.

German cockroaches in particular breed fast and live in warm, tight harbourage, motor housings, equipment voids, hollow legs, cracked tiling, behind fridges and ovens, so a partial treatment simply resets the clock. Titan runs a structured programme with monitoring between visits and does not sign a job off until the activity is gone.

What a cockroach programme involves

A full inspection including equipment voids, motor housings, drains, service ducts, false ceilings and delivery areas, followed by a treatment programme rather than a single visit. Monitors are placed to measure activity between visits so progress is evidence-based rather than assumed.

Treatment is chosen for the species: German cockroaches and Oriental cockroaches behave differently, harbour in different places and need different approaches. Drains and duct work are a frequent Oriental cockroach route and are surveyed accordingly.

Who it is for

Takeaways, restaurants, pubs, hotels, care settings and commercial kitchens across Glasgow, plus residential blocks, HMOs and private homes where an infestation has spread from a neighbouring property.

When to call

The moment you see a live cockroach, find egg cases, or notice the distinctive sweet, oily smell in a kitchen. Cockroaches are nocturnal, so daytime sightings usually indicate a well-established population.

Why professional treatment matters

Over-the-counter sprays scatter a German cockroach population into new harbourage and make the infestation harder and more expensive to resolve. Professional programmes combine correct identification, targeted application in harbourage, monitoring, proofing and documentation that satisfies environmental health.

Signs to look for

  • Live insects seen at night when lights are switched on
  • A distinctive sweet, oily smell in kitchens
  • Droppings resembling ground pepper near appliances
  • Egg cases in cracks, under units and behind equipment
  • Activity around dishwashers, ovens and hot pipework
  • Shed skins in equipment voids and delivery areas

What happens if it is left

Regulatory action

Cockroach activity in a food business is a serious compliance failure and can lead to enforcement, closure and reputational damage that far exceeds the cost of control.

Fast population growth

German cockroach egg cases hold dozens of nymphs and the species breeds continuously in a warm kitchen. Delay multiplies the work required.

Contamination

Cockroaches travel drains and waste areas before walking across preparation surfaces and stored food, carrying contamination with them.

Spread through a building

In blocks and multi-unit premises cockroaches move along service ducts and pipework, so one untreated unit reinfests its neighbours indefinitely.

Staff and customer confidence

Word travels quickly. Discreet, documented resolution protects the business as much as the premises.

Common mistakes we are called in to undo

  • - Using aerosol sprays, which scatter German cockroaches into new harbourage
  • - Treating the kitchen floor while ignoring equipment voids and motor housings
  • - Stopping treatment at the first quiet week instead of completing the programme
  • - Treating one flat or unit while the neighbouring ones stay untreated
  • - Leaving drain and duct routes unchecked for Oriental cockroaches
  • - Deep cleaning alone, which reduces food but leaves the population

Our cockroach control process

  1. Step 1: Inspection

Detailed survey of kitchens, equipment voids, motor housings, drains, ducts, false ceilings, stores and delivery areas, with the species confirmed.

  2. Step 2: Diagnosis

Scale and distribution are mapped, monitors are placed, and the visit plan and cost are set out before the programme starts.

  3. Step 3: Treatment

Targeted application into harbourage, repeated across scheduled visits so that newly hatched nymphs are caught by the programme rather than restarting the infestation.

  4. Step 4: Verification

Monitors are read at each visit and activity is tracked. The job is not signed off on an assumption; it is signed off on the monitoring.

  5. Step 5: Proofing and completion

Harbourage is reduced, gaps and cracks sealed, drain and duct routes addressed, and written records provided for your due-diligence file.

Cockroach Control in detail

German versus Oriental cockroaches

German cockroaches (Blattella germanica) are small, fast-breeding and stay close to warmth and moisture: dishwashers, coffee machines, ovens, fridge motors and cracked tiling. They are the harder of the two to eradicate and demand a full programme.

Oriental cockroaches (Blatta orientalis) are larger, darker and tolerate cooler, damper conditions: drains, basements, ducts, yards and service voids. Control usually involves both internal treatment and attention to the drainage and external routes bringing them in.

Methods and materials

Programmes are built around targeted application into harbourage, monitoring stations to measure activity, physical proofing of cracks, gaps and service penetrations, and advice on cleaning regimes, waste handling and equipment moves that remove the conditions supporting the population.

Where equipment must be moved to reach harbourage, that is planned with you in advance so the kitchen is not disrupted mid-service.

Residential versus commercial

Home infestations are usually smaller but often connected to a neighbouring property; treating in isolation is rarely enough in a block, and we will say so.

Commercial programmes include documented visits, monitoring records, risk assessment and reporting that can be produced at inspection, plus scheduling around trading hours.

Cockroach Control FAQs

How much does cockroach control cost?

Cost depends on the size of the premises and the scale of the infestation, because cockroach work is a programme rather than a single visit. The full visit plan and price are set out after the survey, before anything starts.

How long does a cockroach programme take?

It is set by the life cycle and the scale of the infestation, and typically runs across several scheduled visits so newly hatched nymphs are caught. We agree the plan at survey stage.

Will you disrupt my business?

We work around trading hours wherever we can, including outside opening times, and keep attendance discreet. Any equipment moves are planned with you in advance.

Can you attend as an emergency?

The phone is answered 24/7 and we attend the same day wherever the diary allows, which matters when a kitchen is at risk.

Will I get paperwork for environmental health?

Yes. Treatments and findings are recorded in writing, and monitoring data shows the trend in activity over the programme.

Are the treatments safe in a working kitchen?

Products and placements are selected for food environments and applied into harbourage rather than onto preparation surfaces. We explain what has been used and any precautions before leaving.

Do cockroaches come back after treatment?

A completed programme with harbourage reduction and proofing holds. Reinfestation usually comes from an untreated neighbouring unit or a delivery, which is why proofing and, for many businesses, routine monitoring is worth having.

Can you treat a flat when the problem is coming from next door?

We can treat your flat, but in a block the honest answer is that lasting control usually needs the neighbouring units and shared ducts dealt with too. We will set out what is realistic.
